Harry Howell Vickers, 81 of Peterstown, Wv passed away Saturday February 23, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Bowman Gray Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.Born October 28, 1931 in Alkol, WV he was a son of the late Hal and Edith Wilkerson Vickers.
Harry graduated in 1949 from Duval High School then attended Shepherd College. He left Shepherstown to teach in a one room schoolhouse before entering the Navy during the Korean War Crisis. He served aboard the USS Mount Olympus where he traveled a large part of Europe and the Mediterranean. After the service, Harry attended Marshall College then spent time working in Nevada before returning to West Virginia and Monroe County to farm and raise cattle
Harry is survived by stepmother Garnet Vickers of Alkol, WV, sister Kathleen Wadsworth and husband James of Panaca, Nevada, brothers Jack Vickers and wife Ruth of Peterstown, WV, Kenneth Vickers and wife Margaret of Alkol, WV. He was so loved his neices and nephews,Vic Wadsworth, Felicia Christiansen, Jeff Vickers, Monica Linville, James Vickers, Renee' Ryan, Michele Weaver, and Katrina King, as well as numerous great neices and nephews. Harry loved books, animals, and birds and could always be counted on for a good joke, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services in memory of Harry will be held Thursday February 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Wickline Funeral Home with Elder Darrell Mann and Pastor Barry Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Bradley Cemetery in Lindside, WV.
